GoldStar D series
In-production | 1980 to 1995 | Status | Discontinued |
Predecessor | GoldStar EP | Successor | GoldStar L series |
Overview
The D series refers to a series of low speed traction elevator models produced by GoldStar Industrial Systems (later LG) from the 1980s until the early 1990s. Produced at the Changwon factory in South Korea, the models were mainly designed for low to mid rise buildings, usually up to 20 floors or less. The predecessor is the GoldStar E series from the 1970s, and the successor is the GoldStar L series which was first launched in 1989.
Models belong to this series are:
- DP: Standard passenger elevator model. The abbreviation of DP is said to be "Digital Person".
- DB: Bed/stretcher elevator model for hospitals and medical facilities.
- DO: Panoramic passenger elevator model.
- DF: Freight elevator model for industrial buildings and shopping centers.
- SDP: Low cost passenger elevator model for buildings with up to 15 floors.
In Indonesia, these models were sold through Jaya Kencana (GoldStar's distributor) since 1983 and were mainly installed in shopping centers and hotels built in the 1980s. They are now difficult to see as many of them have been modernized by either Sigma or Nidec.
Characteristics
- Ride quality is generally good although the stopping is often abrupt due to the nature of two speed AC feedback control method.
- Most DP elevators will automatically return to the main floor when not used.
Models
DP
This is a standard two-speed AC passenger elevator model designed for low to mid rise commercial and apartment buildings. It is based on the Hitachi BUIL-ACE P model in Japan, as at that time GoldStar had a licensing agreement with Hitachi. The controller is a mechanical relay. The abbreviation of DP is said to be "Digital Person". Most of the GoldStar elevators installed in Indonesia in the 1980s were of this model, and were mostly installed in hotels, small offices and occasionally apartment buildings.
It was launched in 1980 as a successor of the GoldStar EP model and discontinued in 1995 when GoldStar changed name to LG. The successor is the LVP model which was launched in 1989. Installations after 1992 may adopt the design and options from LVP.

SDP

Fixtures
There were two types of fixtures used in 1980s GoldStar elevators, and all D series models shared the same fixtures. Because GoldStar produced elevators under license from Hitachi, all of these fixtures were based on Hitachi elevators.
Older type
These fixtures are basically the same as the ones used by Hitachi in the late 1970s. The buttons are rectangle that slightly protrude from the panel and have orange illuminating halo. Floor indicators are analog display with illuminating squares.
Newer type
These fixtures consist of Hitachi rectangular buttons and analogue floor indicators. The floor indicator inside the elevator is a long black horizontal bar located above the door, with illuminating numbers. Later models featured a 7-segment digital display. Some late model ones also used touch sensitive buttons.
The landing call button is a square metal button with large illuminating square halo. For landing hall stations with floor indicator, the call button is the same as the older fixtures (see above).
