Haushahn is a German elevator company from Stuttgart, Germany. Founded by in 1889, it was acquired by Schindler in 1998 and since then it became part of the Schindler Group.

Overview

It was initially a family-owned company founded in the late 1800s by Immanuel Hahn in Stuttgart, Germany. It had also exported elevators to other countries through distributors. After many years, it was sold to Swiss elevator company Schindler in 1998 and became part of it since then.

Since it is now part of Schindler, it now sells and installs rebadged Schindler elevator products. For example, the Haushahn lifeLine is a rebranded Schindler 3300 and the Haushahn designLine is a rebadged Schindler 5500. However, all of these products are only sold in Europe.

History of Haushahn in Indonesia

Haushahn entered Indonesia in September 1995 through PT. Ihaka Saka Nusantara as its distributor. However, it remained in the Indonesian market for only two years and had only installed about 90 elevators, mostly low to mid rise installations. It ended in 1997 when Ihaka Saka Nusantara decided to stop importing Haushahn elevators due to the high costs caused by the Asian financial crisis[1].

Since 2005, Ihaka Saka Nusantara is the sole distributor for Hosting elevators and escalators from China, which are sold in Indonesia as "AE-Lift Hosting". It had also distributed Lift Munich (now Liftmaterial) elevators at one point.

Because Haushahn elevators were not widely installed in Indonesia, it is now very difficult to find original Haushahn elevators as almost all of them have either been modernized or replaced by another brand. As of July 2023, the only known remaining installation is at Mal Ratu Indah in Makassar.

1990s

Standard 1990s Haushahn elevators typically use Schaefer MT 28 square buttons and floor indicators with LED dot matrix display. There are a few cases where they use round Schaefer buttons (RT 28), like the ones at Twin Plaza Hotel, Jakarta (main elevators, before replaced in 2012) and Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta.

Depending on the model and specification, the controllers used in these elevators could be Haushahn MC2001 or MC3000; the former seems to be the most common series used in traction elevators.

List of notable Haushahn elevators in Indonesia
