This article is about a standard Hitachi passenger elevator model with microcomputer controls produced from 1981 until the late 1980s. There is no known name for this model.

Overview

The 1980s Hitachi "Computer Control" was standard passenger elevator model designed for low to mid rise buildings. It is a two speed AC feedback geared traction model with microprocessor controllers as opposed to mechanical relay controls, hence earning the "Computer Control" nickname. It was produced from 1981 until the late 1980s when it was succeeded by a second generation model. It is a predecessor of the previous standard passenger elevator model.

No official model name is known so far. Some people in the elevator community claim it as "YPM", but this is unconfirmed due to lack of evidence. It is based on the Hitachi BUIL-ACE Quality 80 Series II model in Japan which was released in 1981.

In this model, the car design and fixtures have been significantly changed. The door thickness has been reduced to save space, and leveling accuracy has been greatly improved thanks to the application of microprocessor controller. It is believed that this model uses an electronic car positioning system which replaced old mechanical floor selectors.

In Indonesia, it was mainly installed in low to mid rise shopping centers as well as commercial buildings in the 1980s. They are now difficult to see as many of them have been replaced into brand new elevators.

  • The car floor indicator will blink when the car moves until it stops.
  • Arrival chime is a standard Hitachi mechanical bell sound.
  • In most cases, the car floor indicator has the word "COMPUTER CONTROL".

Fixtures

Buttons

The buttons are dark grey square with white lettering over a mesh pattern and a small green or orange light on the side. The door control buttons are worded. Emergency intercom button is marked red, and is located below the speaker.

Floor indicators

The car floor indicator is above the door and is an analog type with a set of small red LED dots above the number. These dots will blink when the car moves. There was also 7-segments display but this is very rare and usually seen in high rise installations.

Landing floor indicator is analog with multiple illuminating squares above the landing door. For hall station with a floor indicator, it is the same type as the car floor indicator but the LED lights do not blink at all.
