Hyundai LUXEN (2010s)
- This article is about the current Hyundai LUXEN elevator model series produced since 2013. For the older LUXEN series produced between 2006 and 2013, refer to Hyundai LUXEN (2000s).
Overview
LUXEN is a model of low to medium speed gearless traction elevator produced by South Korean elevator manufacturer Hyundai Elevator since 2006. It is a premium model targeted at low to high rise residential and commercial buildings. The name LUXEN is a combination of the words "LUcrative (meaning "economical"), X and ENvironmental Friendly", and if combined together the meaning is "eco-friendly"[1]. It is often be seen as a form of an emblem on the car station as "LUXEN Digital Gearless".
As a gearless model, since the motor, brake and drive pulley are integrated into one unit without using worm or helical gears, the ride quality is smoother and quieter with almost no natural vibration compared to the Hyundai STVF geared model. It is also possible to save energy up to 10% since it does not use reduction gears. Furthermore, the size of the motor is small enough that it can be installed in narrow or very small elevator machine rooms. LUXEN is the first Hyundai model to adopt a gearless motor for low to medium speed application; such motor was previously only applied to high speed models as well as low to medium speed machine room less models.
The current LUXEN series has been in production since the mid 2010s, replacing the previous LUXEN series which was produced from 2006 until the mid 2010s. Compared to the previous LUXEN series, the newer LUXEN elevators use WBVF (World Best Variable Frequency) microprocessor controllers. Furthermore, it is applied with a 32-bit ARM CORE processor for faster data processing performance, and a real-time operating system (RTOS) for real-time control processing capability. A number of improvements have also been made, such as the door operator.
As of 2024, the current LUXEN models sold in Indonesia are LUXEN-1 and LUXEN. In Indonesia, LUXEN elevators are mainly found in some mid to high rise buildings such as hotels and occasionally offices.
Characteristics
- Arrival chime is typically a four tone sound.
- It is not possible to select floor(s) from the opposite direction the elevator is traveling until it has finished serving the last call. In addition, a floor button beep sound has been added for the first time.
- For floor indicators with white LED display, the number scrolls when passing between floors and when the elevator is on a floor the direction arrow and number will appear in turns. Red and orange LED display is the same as before, continuing to use the distinctive "jumpy" arrow. Larger orange LED displays have hollow dots.
- For red and orange LED displays, certain numbers and letters such as 2, 6, 9, G, etc. now look slightly different than before.

Newer fixtures
Buttons
There are at least six different button types that can be used:
- Type 64: Round silver concave button with a green illuminating letter and edges.
- Type 21: Similar to Type 64, but convex.
- Type 20: Square silver button with a green illuminating letter and edges.

Since 2021, Hyundai's Clean Moving Solution touchless buttons like Air Touch[6] and motion gesture call buttons[7] can be applied as an option. These fixtures can be found at Sudirman Park Apartments[8] and Menara Tekno in Jakarta.
Floor indicators
Floor indicator is divided into two type, LED dot matrix and LCD display.
- White LED dot matrix (normal): Square dots. The number changes by scrolling, and when the elevator stops the arrow and number will appear in turns.
- White LED dot matrix (smaller): This is the same like the red and orange dot matrix displays used in older Hyundai installations, with much smaller round dots and "jumpy" arrow.
- Orange LED dot matrix: Larger and hollow dots with "jumpy" arrow. It is usually used in COPs.
- Red LED dot matrix: Only used in LOPs as well as overhead landing floor indicators. Usually seen in early WBLX installations.
- LCD display: Purple blueish background with white characters, or black background with light brown characters. Newer installations after 2023/24 may feature a simple black background with white characters.
There is one particular type of COP which features a special type of floor indicator with a "progressive" bar effect that acts as direction indicator and can be paired with an LED display for the floor number. This indicator lights up green for up and orange for down.
Smart Indicator
Smart Indicator is a cutting edge car floor indicator which incorporates advanced features like an air sterilizer, surveilance camera and ultrasonic pest repellent. The floor number is displayed in white segments in between two chevron shaped direction arrows that move "progressively". This indicator is only installed inside the car above the door.
It is an extremely rare indicator and to date the only known installation in Indonesia is at Elsotel Purwokerto[9].
