Indonesian Kone Elevators (1990s)

This article is about Indonesian Kone elevators that were produced in the late 1990s in Indonesia. There is no known model name for these elevators.

Overview

These elevators were manufactured shortly after Kone acquired Indonesian elevator company Indolift in 1995 as a mean of establishing its company in Indonesia. The design is the same as the late Indolift elevators except that the brand has been changed to KONE. They use Kone's motors as well as Traffic Master System 600 (TMS600) microprocessor controllers[1] imported from Europe. It is believed that these elevators were assembled in Kone's factory in Waru, Sidoarjo, East Java[2], with a mixture of local and foreign components. Production stopped sometime in the late 1990s when the Sidoarjo factory closed down and Kone began importing elevators from China and occasionally Europe.

Many Indonesian elevator enthusiasts refer these elevators as "Indonesian Kone" due to the fact that the design is only found in Indonesia.

Characteristics

  • These elevators typically have fairly good durability due to their relatively good car structures. Ride quality is generally good.
  • Because they use Kone Traffic Master System 600 controllers, they have the same following characteristics as the European Kone elevators:
    • The arrival chime is the standard 1980s-1990s Kone electronic sound. However, not all of them have this chime now.
    • The floor number changes as soon as the doors have closed.
    • Car calls from the opposite direction of the elevator is traveling cannot be accepted.

Fixtures

Buttons

There are two types of buttons used in the Indonesian Kone elevators. The first one is the standard round grey buttons inherited from late Indolift elevators before the acquisition, with orange light in the middle. The second is a round silver button with black lettering and illuminating halo. The latter seems to be exclusive to Indonesian Kone as they aren't seen in late Indolift elevators.

Floor indicators and hall lanterns

They are the same as the ones used in late Indolift elevators. The floor indicators use 7-segments display with triangle arrows, but in most cases none of the arrows light up anymore. Very rarely an LED dot matrix display was used[3].

Hall lanterns are round acrylic-like blocks which light up milky white. A small silver triangle arrow sits behind the glass. There are also triangle shaped lanterns, often with a floor indicator in between them.
