Overview

ELEMOTION is Mitsubishi's current model for upgrading (modernization) old Mitsubishi elevators that are 20 years and older. It was launched in 2001.

It is a modernization model that only replaces the major components of the old elevator while retaining the existing car. Usually only four major components are replaced; the traction machine, controllers, door motor and fixtures. Other existing components may be retained depending on the condition and/or client's budget. In some cases, the original motor is retained but only a few of its components replaced to make it more efficient. ELEMOTION is exclusive to old Mitsubishi elevators. In other words, it cannot be applied for elevators of other brands.

Until 2021, ELEMOTION was limited to low-medium speed low to mid rise elevators only but now it can also be applied to high speed high rise elevators with up to 6 meters per second, replacing the role of NexWay Modernization which has been discontinued since 2021.

ELEMOTION is the successor of GPS-IIIMZ, Mitsubishi's previous modernization model. It is also the successor of NexWay Modernization in the high speed segment.

Characteristics

A Mitsubishi ELEMOTION elevator is very easy to tell if it has one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Old defunct car floor indicator above the car door (for most 1970s-1980s Mitsubishi elevators)
  • An unusually long LOP, or a metal sheet behind a normal sized boxless LOP. Same cases for overhead landing floor indicators (for most older Mitsubishi elevators)
  • Old style blade ventilation fan type on the ceiling (for most 1970s-1980s Mitsubishi elevators).
  • Original, unrefurbished car interior. Some modernized elevators may have their car interior slightly refurbished or repainted.
  • "Taiwan Mitsubishi" arrival chimes for most low to mid rise elevators. Fewer elevators may use the standard Mitsubishi arrival chime.

For modernizations between 2001 and mid 2010s, the fixtures are the same as the ones used in early Mitsubishi NexWay-S and Mitsubishi Elenessa elevators. Those that were done from the mid 2010s onwards use the current fixtures.
