Overview

GPM and GPM-II were models of high speed passenger elevator produced by Japanese elevator manufacturer Mitsubishi in the 1990s. They were high speed gearless models designed for high rise buildings like offices, hotels and apartments. Both are custom-made models, meaning that the elevators could be ordered based on client's requests and needs.

The first model, GPM was released possibly in the early 1990s as a successor of Mitsubishi MPVF. The GPM is powered by the AI-2100 artificial intelligence group control system with numerous advanced features, such as Psychological Waiting Time Evaluation, Learning Function, Expert System, Data Network System and Fuzzy Logic. It is also equipped with an insulated-gated bipolar transistor (IGBT) in the drive unit of the motor. A second model, GPM-II was most likely launched in the mid 1990s as an improvement of the original GPM model. Both GPM and GPM-II were succeeded by the Mitsubishi GPM-III model which was launched in the late 1990s.

In Indonesia, this model was mainly installed in high rise office buildings as well as very few hotels built between the mid and late 1990s. Almost all of them are found in Jakarta.

Characteristics

  • Motor sound is often loud when the elevator starts moving to full speed.
  • Arrival chime is the standard Mitsubishi electronic sound.
  • Car call cancel feature is included in most cases.
  • Door sills are always thick.

Fixtures

The fixtures are the same as the ones used in Mitsubishi GPS elevators. Car stations are always front mounted, and it seems that they were only available in flat stainless steel panels.

Buttons

Square soft pressure plastic buttons with orange illuminating character. Door open button has a green symbol but lights up orange when pressed. They are known as M type.

Floor indicators

Almost all floor indicators use orange LED dot matrix display as standard feature, with the car display separated from the COP. It seems that GPM-II elevators have bigger car floor indicators with the capacity listed under the display (see gallery below).

Hall lanterns

The standard hall lanterns are square acrylic-like blocks with a silver arrow and light up cream. Some elevators have custom made lanterns that come in various shapes and designs.
