This article is about the standard passenger elevator model of the NexWay lineup. For the custom high speed model, refer to Mitsubishi NexWay.
Overview
NexWay-S is a lineup of standard traction passenger elevator produced since 2003[1]. It replaced the Mitsubishi GPS-III model which had been on sale since 1997. Since then, it has been widely installed in various different buildings in Indonesia like shopping centers, hotels, apartments, hospitals and universities. It has also been installed as a replacement of older non-Mitsubishi elevators.
It is a lineup model that incorporates numerous improvements. Unlike its predecessor GPS-III, it uses a slim gearless machine (replacing the previous geared machine) and the size of the machine room has been significantly reduced to the size of the elevator shaft. It uses the same design and fixtures as the one used in Mitsubishi Elenessa. NexWay-S is intended for low to high rise buildings, and is manufactured by Mitsubishi Elevator Asia Co. Ltd. in Chonburi, Thailand.
It was the flagship of Mitsubishi machine room traction lineup until the release of NEXIEZ-MR in 2010. Since then, its status as a flagship lineup has been taken over by NEXIEZ-MR and new installations has become rare due to the popularity of NEXIEZ-MR. The same case also happened to the machine room less counterpart Mitsubishi Elenessa, shortly after NEXIEZ-MRL was released in 2011.
There are at least five known NexWay-S variants; Series IP/AP, Series AW, Series AW Hospital, Series IP/AP Version 2 and Package-R. Of the five, only "Series IP/AP Version 2 & Series IP" and "Package R" are in-production.
Characteristics
- NexWay-S elevators have smooth acceleration and quick leveling. Some older installations may have loud motor sound accelerating and decelerating.
- Because NexWay-S shares some similarities with the Mitsubishi NEXIEZ-MR, it is difficult to tell the differences between the two lineups as they look very identical in terms of design and features. However, they can be tell apart by the roping configuration; NexWay-S uses 1:1 roping while NEXIEZ-MR uses 2:1 roping.
NexWay-S Series IP/AP
Released in 2003[1], it is the first variant in the NexWay-S lineup with a smaller machine room size (compact model). The size of the machine room is almost the same size as the elevator shaft itself. The difference between IP and AP is the maximum capacity; 2500 kilograms for IP and 1350 kilograms for AP. Usually seen larger buildings such as shopping centers. Series AP appears to have been discontinued in 2009 at the time Series IP/AP Version 2 was released, but Series IP remained available until 2013 when it was unified with Series IP/AP Version 2[2].

NexWay-S Series AP/IP Version 2 and Series IP
Released on April 7, 2009[3][1], it is basically an improvement of the original Series IP/AP variant. New efficient features were added and the interior design was slightly updated with new options. In addition, the maximum number of serving floors has been increased from 36 to 50, and the maximum speed has been increased to 3 m/sec. Since June 2013, a new design and fixtures have been incorporated into this model[2], replacing the previous design that had been used since the initial release of the original model.
In November 2013, it was unified with the old Series IP into "Series IP/AP Version 2 and Series IP"[2], becoming the current model. It is still available as of now, although new installations are now rarely seen due to the popularity of NEXIEZ-MR as the current flagship model of compact traction model.
