Mitsubishi SP
The SP series was a series of elevator models that was produced by Mitsubishi between the 1970s and early 1990s.
Overview
It was a series of standard traction passenger elevator models that was produced by Mitsubishi for export markets from the 1970s until the early 1990s. The series consists of four models designed for low to mid rise buildings in overseas markets. The four models were:
- SP Type: Standard passenger elevator model produced in the 1970s.
- SP-II: Standard passenger elevator model launched in 1979, and is basically an improvement of the original SP Type model.
- SP-III: Standard passenger elevator model with microcomputer controls, launched in 1983.
- SPVF: Standard passenger elevator model with a variable voltage and frequency (VVVF) inverter drive, launched in 1985.
After more than two decades of production, it was succeeded by the G-series standard models (GPS, GPS-II and GPS-III) in the 1990s.

The SP type was a standard two-speed AC passenger elevator model with relay controls produced and sold in the 1970s. It was based on the Mitsubishi Elepet standard passenger elevator model in Japan. It was also a successor of Mitsubishi E series, a standard passenger elevator model that was sold in the 1960s as an export version of the original Japan-only Mitsubishi Elepet model.
SP-II
In-production | 1979 to mid 1980s | Status | Discontinued |
Predecessor | Mitsubishi SP Type | Successor | Mitsubishi SP-III |

SP-II was the second model in the series and is basically an improvement of the original SP model, with an AC feedback control and a digital speed detection method to improve landing accuracy and ride comfort. The car design was also improved with decorative steel panels on fhe car walls and downlight type lightings on the car ceilings. It was available with a 450-1000 kilograms capacity range and speed range between 0.75 and 1.75 meters per minute. Production of this model began in 1979[1]. It was discontinued around the mid 1980s and the successor of this model is the Mitsubishi SP-III.
SP-III
In-production | 1983 (?) to late 1980s | Status | Discontinued |
Predecessor | Mitsubishi SP-II | Successor | Mitsubishi SPVF |

SP-III was the third model in the series and was launched in 1983. Compared to its predecessors, SP-III uses microcomputer controllers as opposed to mechanical relays so the elevator's operation is entirely digital and reliability is improved[2]. It was Mitsubishi's first fully computerized elevator model. The car design was also significantly improved and the fixtures were redesigned with micro pressure push buttons and long lasting orange illuminating floor indicators. SP-III was based on the Mitsubishi Elepet Advance model that was sold exclusively in Japan and launched in 1979. The successor of this model is Mitsubishi SPVF.
SPVF
In-production | 1985 to early 1990s | Status | Discontinued |
Predecessor | Mitsubishi SP-III | Successor | Mitsubishi GPS |

SPVF was the fourth and final model in the SP series. Launched in 1985, it was the first Mitsubishi elevator model equipped with a variable voltage and variable frequency (VVVF) inverter drive to improve ride comfort and lower power comsumption. It was based on the Japan-only Mitsubishi Elepet Advance V model which had been sold since 1982. The capacity range of SPVF was between 450 and 1000 kilograms and the maximum speed was 1.75 meters per second. It was sold until the early 1990s and succeeded by the Mitsubishi GPS, a new generation inverter controlled passenger elevator model introduced in 1992.
