Overview
Otis Spec Alza and Creces are models of Otis passenger elevator, manufactured by Nippon Otis Elevator Company in Japan between the early and late 1990s. They are geared traction models with AC (alternative current) and variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) drive. Both models are similar in terms of mechanical and design.
It is believed that these models are known as "Spec Creces/Alza"[1] in Japan according to an official Nippon Otis booklet (in Japanese).
In Indonesia, these models were available from the early until late 1990s and were mainly installed in low-mid rise hotels and office buildings. They are now becoming difficult to see as many of them have been modernized or replaced in the 2010s.
Characteristics
- Most elevators have blinking direction arrows on the floor indicators (both inside and outside) while the car is traveling.
- Arrival chime sound is very identical to Mitsubishi. Some elevators may have bi-directional chimes; single tone for up, and double tone for down. Some early installations have a mechanical-like chime that sounds similar to Otis Spec 60VF or older Fujitec elevators.
- It has been known that car call cancel feature was available as an option[2][3]. A few elevators have button beep sound[4].
- Most Spec Alza and Creces elevators have rounded metallic door bumpers.
Differences with Otis 3200 and other Chinese models
Some Chinese Otis elevator models produced in the 2000s, such as Otis 3200, have very similar design to Spec Alza/Creces so both models are often mistaken with each other. However, Otis 3200 elevators do not have blinking arrows on the floor indicators and they generally have "sharper" sounding chimes compared with Spec Alza/Creces. Also the intercom button is dark blue.
Otis Spec Alza and Creces elevators can be tell apart if they have one or more of the following features; dark grey colored buttons, blinking direction arrows on the floor indicators, analog landing floor indicators, a button beep inside, door bumpers or a wheelchair button panel.
Known specifications
Very little detail is known for the specifications of Otis Spec Alza and Creces. The capacity range is estimated to be between 450 and 1350 kilograms (or 6 and 20 persons).
Fixtures
Buttons
The buttons are either white or dark grey colored square plastic buttons with orange illuminating halo and italicized Arial Narrow typeface. There are three variants of button panels; stainless steel, white resin and dark grey resin. Rarely, a wheelchair button panel could be applied as an option.
Floor indicators
Orange 16-segments displays with two direction arrows that blink when the elevator is traveling. Direction arrows are orange on the outside and green on the inside. An analog landing display with multiple translucent illuminating squares was also available as an option, although they are very rarely seen.
Hall lanterns
Glass translucent square blocks with a transparent arrow, and light up orange.
