Compass is a series of elevator destination dispatch system of American elevator company Otis.

It was first launched in 2005 as Compass. In 2013, CompassPlus was launched as the second generation and improvement of the original Compass system. A third generation, known as Compass360, was launched in 2020.

Overview

Compass always comes with full configuration, meaning that there are no visible floor buttons inside the elevators (instead, they are concealed in a hidden compartment and are only used during firefighting operation) and all floors use keypad operating panels. The hall operating panels can be a keypad with push buttons or an LCD touch screen.

Applications

It is usually used in high rise office buildings. At present, Compass/CompassPlus/Compass360 can or could be applied in the following Otis elevator models in Indonesia:

It can also be applied for upgrading existing Otis models, like the ones in Cyber 2 Building, Jakarta.

Compass

The original system, known simply as Compass, was released in 2005. It was discontinued in 2013 and succeeded by CompassPlus.

To date, the only known Compass system in Indonesia is at the Monetary Services Authority (also known as the Soemitro Djojohadikusumo Building) in Jakarta, which is actually an "upgrade" from 1990s Otis 2000 VF elevators.

Fixtures

Compass landing fixtures are generally flush mounted panels with numerical keypads and a small LCD display. A larger TFT-LCD touch screen was available as an option.

Released in 2013, CompassPlus is the second generation system of Otis Compass. It is essentially an improvement of the original Compass system, with newly redesigned keypads and touch screens.

Fixtures

There are three types of landing fixtures used in CompassPlus:

  • A keypad with wave-like numerical keypads a display which also works as a touch screen. Often known as "OneCall"[1].
  • A touchpad which is basically a touch screen with the same size of the keypad version.
  • A touchscreen which is basically a wider version of the touchpad.

All three fixtures types could be surface or flush mounted, and they could be fitted with a keycard reader for security measurement as an option. Car identifiers are usually V-shaped plates with or without illumination.
