Overview

Elevonic 411 was a high speed elevator model of American elevator manufacturer Otis. Launched in 1989 as a successor of Otis Elevonic 401, it is a gearless high speed model for mid to high rise buildings. It was sold until around 2014 when it was succeeded by Otis SkyRise, the current flagship high speed model.

The model incorporates numerous improvements and state-of-the-art features, such as microcomputer controls with "artificial intelligence", dispatching system (dubbed as "channeling"), remote monitoring system ("Elevator Monitoring System" or EMS), etc. In addition, the control panel has been significantly simplified compared to the Elevonic 401. The "channeling" dispatching system works by grouping passengers going to the same floor to the same elevator car, thereby reducing travel time.

Two variants existed; one was the regular Elevonic 411 for new installs, and the second was Elevonic 411 M for upgrading older Otis elevators. It is believed that Elevonic 411 was produced in the United States and Germany.

In Indonesia, this model was mainly installed in high rise office buildings and hotels built in the 1990s. A few Elevonic 411 M installations also existed; they were mostly found in older hotels. Elevonic 411 was most likely discontinued in Indonesia in the 2000s.

Characteristics

  • Elevonic 411 is almost similar to its predecessor, Elevonic 401. It is known to travel fast and levels quick, as well as making a distinctive humming sound when the elevator starts up and stops.
  • It also plays very distinctive chimes upon arrival, which ring once for up and twice for down.
  • Older Otis elevators that have been modernized with Elevonic 411 M usually have their old OTIS logo still attached on the inner door sill. This is the easiest way to tell an Elevonic 411 M.
  • Similar to its predecessor, when the elevator is traveling through non-stop floors the floor indicator will show "EZ" (for segmented displays) or "EXPRESS ZONE" (for electroluminescent displays).
  • During nudge mode, the floor number blinks until the doors closed.

Elevonic 411 M

Elevonic 411 M is a variant of Elevonic 411 for upgrading (modernization) older Otis elevators. In this variant, the existing elevator car was retained while the controllers, fixtures and other electrical components were replaced. Motor generator sets from the old elevators were also replaced with a more energy efficient drive system. The existing motor and certain components may be retained.

Known specifications

Very little is known about Elevonic 411's specifications, but the speed range is 150 to 420 meters per minute (or 2.5 to 7 meters per second).

Fixtures

The fixtures used in Elevonic 411 and 411 M elevators are called Series 3.

Buttons

The buttons are round silver coated concave buttons with green or red illuminating halo. Floor numbers or lettering are beside the buttons. For the call buttons, they always light up green for up and red for down.

Floor indicators

There are two types of displays; one is a standard red LED segmented display and the second is a yellow electroluminescennt display. The latter has the ability to display date and time as well as special and custom messages.

Hall lanterns

Hall lanterns light up green for up and red for down. There are two types; one is the "arrow" lantern with a triangle arrow that lights up, and the second is the "progressive" lantern which lights up progressively. Some elevators have a combination of hall lanterns and floor indicator.
