Overview
Schindler 300 P was a passenger elevator model of Swiss elevator company Schindler, manufactured by Schindler (China) Elevator Co. Ltd. in China. Launched in 1999, it was part of the Schindler 300 lineup which had been on sale in Europe since 1993. It is basically a variant of Schindler 300 designed for the Asia Pacific markets.
Schindler 300 P was designed for low to mid rise buildings up to 32 floors. It is divided into two types; with machine room and machine room less. The machine room type is a geared model with planetary geared machine (Schindler P420) manufactured by Zahnradfabrik Passau GmbH in Germany[1]. The machine room less type is a gearless model.
This model was produced from 1999 until around the late 2000s. Its successor is the Schindler 5400 AP.
In Indonesia, it was mainly installed in medium to large sized shopping centers and occasionally high rise apartments in Jakarta. Most installations are the machine room type while only a handful of machine room less type were installed so the latter are very rare and harder to find.
Characteristics
- Floor number changing on the interior floor indicator: For the machine room type (with TX-GC control), the number changes as soon as the elevator starts moving. For the machine room less type (with MX-GC control), the number changes in between floors. However, since the Schindler 5400 AP uses MX-GC control for both types, it is difficult to tell the differences between the two models.
- On the machine room type, an arrow will appear the landing floor indicators upon arrival. For machine room less type, the number and scrolling arrows appear together.
- Almost all 300 P elevators have advanced door opening (i.e. doors open before the elevator stops). Some elevators have a distinctive door movement noise.
- Arrival chime differs depending on the type. The machine room type uses the "classic" Schindler chime, while the machine room less type uses a different chime that sounds like Thyssen elevators. These chimes will only sound when there is a hall call.
- Car operating panels have vertical line on the sides, regardless if they are fitted with D-Line or M-Line buttons.
- On landing call stations with floor indicator, the arrow would slightly blink before the elevator stops.

Fixtures
D-Line buttons
These are round buttons with green (and rarely red) illuminating halo. There were two different variants; one is a glass button (D2, standard) and the second is a black coated aluminum button with braille and tactile and raised edge (D8).
M-Line
These are similar to the 1980s-1990s Schindler M-Line buttons except that they're now silver instead of aluminum. They could be push or touch sensitive type. M-Line buttons were optional and therefore they are very rare to see on newer Schindler elevators.
Floor indicators
Green or red LED dot matrix display with scrolling arrows manufactured by Vander Electronic Technology, a Hong Kong based company.
Trivia
- One of the tallest known Schindler 300 P machine room less elevators in Indonesia is at the residential block of Braga Citywalk in Bandung with a height of almost 20 floors. Oddly enough, the elevators in the shopping mall are the regular traction type.
- This model was also available as a panoramic elevator but only available in square shape. It should not to be confused with the Schindler 800, which is a panoramic/custom built elevator model with either half or full cylinder shaped car.
