Overview
Schindler 3300 AP (known as 3300 since 2019) is a machine room less elevator model of Schindler, manufactured by Schindler (China) Elevator Co. Ltd. in China. A variant of the European Schindler 3300 (launched in 2005) intended for the Asia Pacific markets, it was designed primarily for residential and commercial buildings with up to 27 floors and was considered as a cost effective model.
It was launched in 2006 and sold in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, China, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand. It can be considered as a successor of the Schindler Elegant MRL, Schindler's previous cost effective elevator model. In 2019, the "AP" was dropped from the model name and simply became 3300. In 2021, it was discontinued and succeeded by the Schindler 3000.
Unlike Schindler's previous machine room less models, Schindler 3300 uses a smaller and compact gearless machine as well as polyurethane coated steel belts as its hoisting ropes (similar to Otis Gen2. These steel belts, known as the Suspension Traction Media (STM), are said by Schindler to be more lighter and flexible than traditional steel ropes. In addition, the top-floor control board is integrated with the landing door frame to save space.
It is a model that has been widely installed in low rise buildings across Indonesia throughout the 2010s, making it the most common and popular Schindler model. A few mid rise installations also exist; one of the tallest Schindler 3300 AP installations in Indonesia is at the Louis Kienne Hotel in Semarang (25 floors high). It could also be applied for replacing older elevators of any brands in existing buildings.
Characteristics
- Slower leveling and takes a few seconds before the doors open. However, some elevators with a speed of more than 1 meters per second have quick leveling.
- The floor number changes as soon as the elevator starts moving, both on the exterior and interior floor indicator.
- The direction arrow only appear when the doors open.
- Very slim control cabinet, and is integrated with the door frame.
- Unique and distinctive car interior.
- Uses Fermator doors and/or Sematic glass doors.
Depending on the installation year, the Schindler 3300 is divided into two generations based on its interior design, features and other cosmetic differences. The easiest way to tell between the two generations is from interior lights.
First generation (2007-2014)
- The first generation, produced from 2007 until 2014, features a distinctive light. Depending on the interior design, there are two different lighting styles. The first one is a curved light on the sides, while the second one is a long curved light in the front and back. These lights appear to use incandescent bulbs.
- Handrails are always curved and mounted on the rear wall.
- From 2011 onward, FI GS fixtures with push buttons and LED dot matrix displays became available as an option.
- Inspection switches are concealed in a small cabinet under the car operating panel.
- Installations before 2011 could not have a rear entrance option and could not be glass/panoramic. In addition, the maximum number of elevator car was limited to two cars before it was increased to three in 2011.
Second generation (2014-2021)
- The second generation, produced from 2011 until 2021, features an updated design and minor changes. The interior lights are no longer curved and incandescent, instead they now use LED lights and can be in a form of a single round light, two lines, two brackets, four spotlights, or two curved lights.
- The handrails are now mostly flat rectangular, although the previous curved handrails were still available as an option.
- From late 2014, a new fixtures lineup called Linea 120 Touch became available, replacing the FI GL fixtures. It is almost identical to the touch sensitive FI GL but with FI GS style LED dot matrix display and is only available with touch sensitive buttons.
- Inspection switches are now attached under the car operating panel and are concealed by a glass shell for FI GL and Linea 120 Touch, and a stainless steel shell for FI GS.
- Glass doors (supplied by Sematic) became available as an option.
- The last batch of 3300 elevators installed between 2020 and 2021 have Schindler 5500 style capacity label.
- Some late 3300 elevators no longer have slow leveling and the doors open as soon as the elevator stops.

Fixtures
There were three types of fixtures used in the Schindler 3300; FI GL, FI GS and Linea 120 Touch. All of them are wall mounted.
FI GL
FI GL fixtures are made of tinted light blue glass and use either touch sensitive or push buttons. The touch sensitive buttons are simply illuminating numbers on the glass panel indicating floors that are available; they stay illuminate in light blue when not touched and light up red when touched. The push buttons are just a set of square buttons with braille, tactile, and a little dot lamp at the top-left corner of the button. Floor indicators use LED segments display. There was also special button panel designed for people on wheelchair, and these panels always have push buttons for disability reason.
Touch sensitive FI GL always have fixed floor numbering, meaning that custom floor numbers could not be applied. By default, there are 27 pre-specified floor numbers on the panel (B2, B1, G, 1 to 24). However, custom numbers could be applied on the push button FI GL.
FI GL was discontinued in 2016 and was replaced by the Linea 120 Touch.
FI GS
Available since 2011, FI GS fixtures are made of stainless steel with a glass panel for the indicator. Buttons are square with tactile and illuminating halo, and they may also have braille marks as an option. The floor indicators uses a true LED dot matrix display. Since the release of the brand new Schindler 3000 and the discontinuation of 3300, these fixtures are now used in the Schindler 3000 as the Linea 100 series.
Linea 120 Touch
Linea 120 Touch (often mistaken as FI GS 120) fixtures became available in 2015 and they are the successor of FI GL. They look just like FIGL but with FIGS LED dot matrix display and button beep instead; in other words, they are a combination of FI GL and FI GS. Like FI GS, these fixtures are now used in the new Schindler 3000 and 5000 models since the launching of the two models and the discontinuation of 3300.
From 2020, a touchless version of Linea 120 Touch (which is part of Schindler CleanMobility solutions) can be used to replace the existing regular fixtures as an option. The only visible difference with the regular version is that the buttons illuminate white when not touched.

Glitches and anomalies
These glitches and anomalies have been known to occur very frequently in many Schindler 3300 elevators, especially on older installations.
Selected floor goes out on its own
This particular glitch usually happens after selecting a floor for the third time, but sometimes it may happen randomly. When the elevator starts up, the selected floor will goes off and the direction arrow will not appear upon arrival. Despite this, the selected floor will not be erased from the controller and one can still select the same floor again[1]. This is by far the most common glitch found in many Asian Schindler 3300 elevators.
Short beep on bottom most floor
This anomaly is only found in some Schindler 3300 elevators with FI GS fixtures. A very short beep will sound when the doors open on the bottom most floor[2].
Trivia
- In Europe and certain regions, the Schindler 3300 is a successor of Schindler Smart MRL, a machine room less elevator with keypad style button panel. In Asia Pacific, it is a successor of Schindler Elegant MRL.
- According to some people who work in Schindler, the Schindler 3300 controller has been designed in such a way that it cannot be modified or altered with any third-party components.
- There are several other similar Schindler models that are based on the 3300, such as Schindler 3100 (for low rise residential buildings), 5300 (for commercial buildings), 6200 and 6300. In Indonesia, the 3100 and 5300 were never sold in Indonesia. Schindler's modernization elevator models, 6200 and 6300, are also based on the 3300.
- The two Schindler 3300 AP passenger elevators at B Fashion Hotel, Jakarta use Schindler 5400 AP's ceiling design despite being a different model. It is by far the only known 3300 AP elevator in Indonesia having a different ceiling design.
