Overview

The Schindler 5000 is the current traction elevator model of Swiss elevator manufacturer Schindler. The model is designed for buildings up to 40 floors and like many Schindler's previous models, it was available with or without machine room. The model fills in the gap between the Schindler 3000 and 6000 and it is positioned as a mid end model. It was launched in 2020 along with Schindler 3000.

It shares many similarities with the Schindler 5500 in terms of mechanical and design. However, the Schindler 5000 uses a new controller known as Schindler Scalable (SC). There is also a variant of this model for replacing old elevators called Schindler 5000 Plus[1].

Since 2024, the machine room less and mini machine room type are now called 5000 and 5000MR respectively with different maximum capacity. Previously, both type had a maximum capacity of 2500 kilograms.

In Indonesia, it is mainly seen in small to medium sized commercial buildings, shopping centers and occasionally hospitals.

Characteristics

  • Schindler 5000 behaves very similar to Schindler 5500, such as the direction arrow appearing when the elevator is moving. It also has advanced door opening.
  • It is believed that a Schindler 5000 can be tell apart by the position of the landing door keyhole; Schindler 5000's keyhole is centered (in between two door panels) whereas Schindler 5500's keyhole is slightly aligned to the side. However, this only applies for center opening doors.
  • On most Schindler 5000 elevators, the emergency light on the car panel is located on the floor indicator display.
  • Elevator will automatically goes to energy saving mode (lights and fans turn off) after five seconds of inactivity.

Trivia

  • Many elevator enthusiasts believe that this model is a successor of the Schindler 5500, but this is incorrect. According to the people working in Schindler, the Schindler 5500 was succeeded by the Schindler 6000 which was released in late 2023 as a mid to high end model above the Schindler 5000. Schindler 5000 is a model without a direct predecessor.
