Schindler 5400 AP
In-production | 2005 to 2013 | Status | Discontinued |
Predecessor | Schindler 300 P | Successor | Schindler 5500 |
Overview
The Schindler 5400 AP was a passenger elevator model of Swiss elevator company Schindler, manufactured by Schindler (China) Elevator Co. Ltd. in China. A successor of Schindler 300 P, it was designed for buildings up to 32 floors and was available with or without machine room. It is essentially a variant of Schindler 5400 from Europe which was designed specifically for the Asia Pacific markets.
It shares some similarities with the Schindler 300 P, but unlike its predecessor, the machine room type comes with a gearless machine, and both the machine room and machine room less type uses the same controller type (in this case, Miconic MX-GC).
The model was launched sometime in the mid 2000s (estimation year is 2005?) and continued to be produced until 2013 when it was succeeded by the Schindler 5500. However, it is still produced today in China.
In Indonesia, this model is mainly seen in medium to large shopping centers and occasionally office buildings. A vast majority of installations are the machine room less type.
Characteristics
- The floor number on the interior floor indicator changes when the elevator is in between floors. However, since the 5400 AP uses the same Miconic control (MX-GC) as the 300 P machine room less type, it is difficult to compare the two machine room less models.
- 5400 AP elevators have advanced door opening (i.e. doors open before the elevator stops).
- There are two kinds of arrival chime. The first chime is similar to the first generation Schindler 3300 elevators, and the second chime is a distinctive four tone/two tone chime.
- 5400 AP elevators uses Wittur doors. Glass and possibly telescopic doors are from Sematic.
- The machine room less type usually have loud motor brake sound.
- Control cabinet for machine room less type is located on the top floor and integrated with the door frame, unless installed separately as custom install.
- In rare cases, the floor buttons double as analog floor indicator. It seems that this feature can be activated/deactivated manually.
- There is an anomaly where a car call gets erased by itself. This usually happens when the elevator is about to perform a third trip, but sometimes it may happen randomly. The cause is unknown.
Late 5400 AP variant
"Late 5400 AP variant" refers to a variant of 5400 AP that was produced from 2012 to 2013 with minor changes. These include a new nameplate that was adopted from the 1980s-1990s M-Series fixtures and a lower-pitched version of the original chimes. The fixtures remained almost the same as before, with D2 D-Line buttons and "Vander" LED dot matrix indicators.

Fixtures
The fixtures used in the Schindler 5400 SP elevators are almost the same as the Schindler 300 P elevators. Some elevators have E-Type hall stations paired with either D-Line or M-Line buttons.
D-Line buttons
These are round buttons with green or red illuminating halo that were available in five different variants:
- D2: Glass button (standard).
- D2 Braille: Black coated aluminum button with braille and tactile.
- D4: Stainless steel button.
- D6: Black coated aluminum button with tactile.
- D8: Similar to D2 Braille but with a raised edge.
M-Line buttons
These are similar to the 1980s-1990s Schindler M-Line buttons except that they're now silver instead of aluminum. They could be push or touch sensitive type. M-Line buttons were optional and therefore they are very rare to see on newer Schindler elevators.
Floor indicators
Green or red LED dot matrix display with scrolling arrows manufactured by Vander Electronic Technology, a Hong Kong based company.
