Overview

Iris is a traction elevator model of South Korean elevator manufacturer Sigma that was sold between the 2000s and early 2010s. It was produced by Dalian Sigma Elevator Company, Sigma's Chinese subsidiary in Dalian, China.

It is a low-entry gearless passenger elevator model designed for low to high rise residential and commercial buildings. The design is based on the Sigma Distributed Inverter elevators. It is considered to be the first Sigma model to adopt gearless motor for low speed application; such motor was previously only applied for high speed (Distributed Inverter "DS-4" and "Di5") and low speed machine room less (Solon) models. Iris was discontinued in the early 2010s and was succeeded by the Sigma Iris NV model.

In Indonesia, this model was mainly installed in high rise apartment buildings, low to mid rise hotels as well as low to middle class shopping centers.

Characteristics

  • Iris elevators have unique chimes which consist of two stages for up and four stages for down.
  • Door movement is comparably faster than the Sigma Di elevators.
  • Most Iris elevators have the words "Subsidiary of Otis Elevator Korea" written under the Sigma logo, but some others don't. There are also a few elevators where the Sigma logo is different and paired with the words "Digital Elevator" and "Otis Korea Technology".
  • Motor brake sound is generally louder upon stopping.
  • Ride quality and durability is not as good as the Distributed Inverter models, with vibrations can often be felt and heard upon startup and stopping.
  • Very few Iris elevators use third party controllers from South Korean compang Samil Eltec. These elevators play a very distinctive arrival chime and very rarely, voice announcement.
