Overview

Solon (codenamed SL-1) is a machine room less elevator model produced by South Korean elevator manufacturer Sigma (a subsidiary of Otis Elevator Korea) from the 2000s until the early 2010s. It is one of Sigma's two machine room less models produced during that time, the other being the Sigma Muse model which was based on the Otis Gen2.

There were two variants. One is the Solon Standard designed for residential and commercial buildings, and the second is Solon Comfort which is a cost saving variant mainly designed for residential buildings. Solon was discontinued in the early 2010s and was succeeded by the Solon NV (now Solon Premium since 2019) model.

In Indonesia, this model was mainly installed in low rise hotels built from the late 2000s until the early 2010s.

Characteristics

  • Solon elevators can be easy to tell by their distinctive motor brake sound upon stopping.
  • On the top floor, there is a tall cabinet with a hinged door next to the landing door where the controller is stored.
  • Like Di elevators, they do not level quick; it would take a few seconds to open the door.

Variants

Solon Standard

Solon Standard, or simply Solon is the standard model with a maximum capacity of 1150 kilograms. The design is the same as the newer Sigma Distributed Inverter elevators, and it could also be installed as a panoramic elevator. It was designed for both residential and commercial buildings. Almost all Sigma Solon elevators installed in Indonesia are of this model.

Solon Comfort

Solon Comfort is the low cost variant of Solon mainly aimed for residential as well as basic commercial buildings. Unlike the Solon Standard, the design option is very limited and the maximum capacity is only 1000 kilograms.
