Toshiba Elevators (2000s)
This article is about Toshiba elevators that were manufactured in the 2000s, which until now, have no confirmed model names.
Overview
In the 2000s, Toshiba had unnamed elevator models sold for the Southeast Asian markets for low to high rise buildings. There was a standard low to medium speed passenger elevator model (with or without machine room) as well as a high speed gearless passenger elevator model for high rise buildings. The high speed model is considered custom-type, meaning that it could be designed based on client's desire and requirement. It is believed that these elevators were manufactured in Malaysia (by MS Elevators Sdn. Bhd.) or China. The model name is currently not known due to lack of proper information.
In Indonesia, this model was sold by Toshindo Elevator Utama and was mainly installed in low to high rise office buildings and hotels built in the 2000s. Some government owned buildings also use this model.
Characteristics
- These elevators typically have "weaker" brakes, meaning that they bounce whenever passengers are entering and exiting the elevator on a floor.
- Arrival chime is usually a unique electronic tone sound. Some installations use bell sound.
- Car call cancel works by pressing a floor button twice. The button will blink for a few seconds after the first press.
- Floor button light goes off when the door starts to open.
Known specifications
There is almost no information about the specifications of 2000s Toshiba elevators. It is assumed that the available capacity range for the standard passenger model was between 450 and 1600 kilograms. At least one high speed installation in Jakarta has been known to run at 4 meters per second.
Fixtures
There are two types of button panel; a basic stainless steel and a grey colored resin like panel. The latter is very rare in Indonesia.
Buttons
The buttons are dark rounded square plastic with red or orange illumination. The call buttons light up green for up and red for down.
Floor indicators and hall lanterns
By default the floor indicators use 16 segments display, though fewer installations use LED dot matrix displays with the dots arranged to look like segmented numbers. The standard hall lanterns are white squares with an arrow in the center; they light up green for up and red for down. Custom lanterns also exist and are usually found in high speed elevators.
