Hyundai YZER (2000s)
- This article is about the older Hyundai YZER machine room less elevator series produced between 1999 and 2016. For the newer and current YZER series produced since 2012, refer to Hyundai YZER (2010s).
Overview
YZER is a series of machine room less traction elevator models currently produced by South Korean elevator manufacturer Hyundai Elevator since 1999. The name YZER originated from the word "wiser (choice)"[1].
The first series of YZER models was produced from 1999 until the mid 2010s when it was succeeded by the current YZER series. YZER was introduced in 1999 as SpaceSaver and was the first machine room less elevator model in the Korean elevator industry.
In Indonesia, it is mainly seen in shopping centers as well as hotels.
Characteristics
- Until SSVF5 (mid 2000s), the design and fixtures used in early SSVF models were nearly the same as the 60VF and WC-VF models. After that, the design was slightly updated and the fixtures were significantly changed. The standard red LED dot matrix display with the distinctive "jumpy" arrow and "AUTO" word continued to be used. LUXEN (LXVF) elevators typically use orange LEDs. There are a few cases where the design from Hyundai LUXEN "LXVF-7" elevators was applied to SSVF7 elevators.
- Until 2010, the direction arrow on the floor indicators will stop animating just as the elevator slows down. When the elevator reaches the top or bottom floor even if there is no hall call made on that floor, the direction of the arrow will change. However since 2011, the arrow will disappear if there is no hall call on the bottom or top floor.
- Arrival chime sounds vary depending on the production year and model:
- For elevators produced between 1999 and the mid 2000s (SpaceSaver-I, SpaceSaver-II and SSVF3), the chime consist of four tone for up and two tone for down.
- For elevators produced between the mid 2000s and year 2010 (SSVF5 and SSVF7), the chime consist of four tone for both direction. Those that were produced between 2010 and 2016 use a new four tone chime which sounds almost like a xylophone.
- Car call cancel feature is usually found in SSVF7 elevators.
- Some SSVF7 elevators would slightly "jump" upon starting.
Models
There are at least five known models belong to the SSVF series.
SSVF (SpaceSaver-I and SpaceSaver-II)
The first model is SSVF, also known as SpaceSaver-I. It was officially released in 1999 as a bottom drive type but since it was prone to flooding and difficult to apply to high rise buildings, it was replaced by a top drive type in 2000 known as the SpaceSaver-II to compensate those problems. In other words, the SSVF is divided into two types; bottom drive (SpaceSaver-I) and top drive (SpaceSaver-II). Not much is known about SpaceSaver-II except that it could serve up to 32 floors. The design is the same as the early Hyundai STVF elevators. It was produced until 2008.
The only known Hyundai SpaceSaver-I installation in Indonesia was at the former Planet Holywood restaurant in Kuta, Bali. The elevator had been left derelict since the early 2010s but in 2023 it was completely replaced into another brand[2]
SSVF3 and SSVF5
In 2002, SSVF3 was launched as a successor of SSVF, followed by SSVF5 two years later. Not much is known about these models, but SSVF3 was discontinued in 2008.
SSVF7
The final model, SSVF7, was released in 2009 as a successor of SSVF5. Unlike previous models, SSVF7 is equipped with a high performance 32-bit CPU to improve processing speed and expand communication interfaces and functions, and an energy regenerative inverter that reuses energy back to the power grid instead of released as heat could be applied as an option. Most of the Hyundai machine room less elevators installed in Indonesia from the late 2000s until early 2010s are of this model. It was discontinued in 2016 and succeeded by the YZER-I model (known internally as SSVF9).
It is believed that both SSVF5 and SSVF7 were manufactured by Hyundai's Chinese subsidiary, Shanghai Hyundai Elevator in China.
