General information
|
Pillar (company name: PT. Pillar Utama Contrindo) is one of the several domestic elevator companies in Indonesia.
Overview
It is a domestic elevator established in October 1995 and is based in Bandung, West Java. It was initially a company that only provided elevator and escalator maintenance and until 1998 it was a distributor of an unknown Korean branded elevators and escalators for Bandung and surrounding areas. In 2002, the company began producing its own elevators and the first installation was done in a school in Jakarta[1]. It also installs inclined elevators[2].
It is perhaps a domestic elevator company with the most number of installations nationwide. Most of its installations are found in small to medium sized shopping malls, hospitals, hotels as well as other privately owned buildings. They are also widely seen in Lippo Group properties nationwide, with escalators being the most seen in many Lippo shopping malls. Some Yogya department stores nationwide are also installed with this brand.
Features
Elevator controllers and components
Almost all controllers are from Chinese manufacturer Shanghai STEP, one of the most popular Chinese brand of elevator controllers.
Most of the elevator components are from Ningbo Shenlong (NBSL) in China.
Fixtures
Pillar has been known to use fixtures from different manufacturers. Older installations from the 2000s until mid 2010s use Shanghai STEP fixtures, consist mostly the EB series square buttons (though other button types were also used) and LED dot matrix displays.

Installations between the mid and late 2010s use fixtures made by an unknown Chinese company, these consist of counterfeited Kone KDS 300 square buttons with orange or blue illumination and LED dot matrix displays with square orange dots. Some installations use bigger LCD displays which are capable of displaying multimedia. Very few installations use Hong Jiang fixtures from Taiwan.

Since the 2020s, most installations use push buttons made by Chinese company DMG-NBSL in Shanghai, China[3]. These buttons can be round and square with orange illumination, and are based on the Italian made DMG buttons in Europe. The floor indicators are white segmented display and LCD with multimedia capability.

Escalators and moving walks
Escalators and moving walks sold by Pillar are made by Xinda Escalator from China, possibly as complete built-up (CBU). The design is a counterfeited Schindler 9300 / 9500 product.
Known models
Based on the project list on the company's old website, it appears that Pillar elevator models installed in the 2000s were known as ViP for passenger elevators, ViS (probably service elevators), ViB for bed elevators, and ViO for panoramic elevators. There was also ViPR which appear to be another passenger elevator model but nothing is known about it[4]. All models were traction type.
There were also PF and HUF models installed in the early 2000s. There is no known information about them although HUF is suspected to be a freight elevator model.
