Hyundai LUXEN (2000s)
- This article is about the older Hyundai LUXEN elevator model series produced between 2006 and 2016. For the newer and current LUXEN series produced since 2013, refer to Hyundai LUXEN (2010s).
Overview
LUXEN is a model of low to medium speed gearless traction elevator produced by South Korean elevator manufacturer Hyundai Elevator since 2006. It is a premium model targeted at low to high rise residential and commercial buildings. The name LUXEN is a combination of the words "LUcrative (meaning "economical"), X and ENvironmental Friendly", and if combined together the meaning is "eco-friendly"[1]. It is often be seen as a form of an emblem on the car station as "LUXEN Digital Gearless".
As a gearless model, since the motor, brake and drive pulley are integrated into one unit without using worm or helical gears, the ride quality is smoother and quieter with almost no natural vibration compared to the Hyundai STVF geared model. It is also possible to save energy up to 10% since it does not use reduction gears. Furthermore, the size of the motor is small enough that it can be installed in narrow or very small elevator machine rooms. LUXEN is the first Hyundai model to adopt a gearless motor for low to medium speed application; such motor was previously only applied to high speed models as well as low to medium speed machine room less models.
The first LUXEN series produced between the mid 2000s and 2010s consists of two models; LXVF1 which was the first model and launched in 2006, and LXVF7 which was launched in 2009. Since the 2010s, it has been succeeded by the current LUXEN series which consists of two models known as LUXEN-1 (STVF9, Chinese made) and the Korean made LUXEN (WBLX1).
In Indonesia, the first generation LUXEN elevators were mainly installed in low to medium sized shopping centers, hotels, hospitals as well as some high rise apartment buildings built between the mid 2000s and early 2010s.
Characteristics
- Compared to the Hyundai STVF geared model, the ride quality is much smoother and quieter with little to zero vibration since the motor, brake and driving pulley are all integrated without using worm or helical gears.
- Arrival chime for LXVF7 is a simple two tone sound.
- Door operator is smoother compared to the Hyundai STVF and SSVF (YZER) models.
- Until 2010, the direction arrow on the floor indicators will stop animating just as the elevator slows down. When the elevator reaches the top or bottom floor even if there is no hall call made on that floor, the direction of the arrow will change. However since 2011, the arrow will disappear if there is no hall call on the bottom or top floor.
Models
LXVF1
LXVF1 is the very first LUXEN model, launched in April 2006 as Hyundai's first low to medium speed gearless elevator model with machine room. The design is almost similar to some early Hyundai STVF (geared) elevators from the early to mid 2000s.
It is said that the first LUXEN elevators in Indonesia as well as outside South Korea were installed at the Grand Indonesia Shopping Town and French Walk Apartments in Jakarta.
LXVF7
LXVF7 was launched in 2009 as a successor as well as an improvement of LXVF1. Compared to its predecessor, this model is equipped with a 32-bit CPU to improve processing speed and expand communication interface and functions. In addition, an energy regenerative inverter that reuses energy back to the power grid (instead of released as heat) could be applied to this model as an option. It was sold until 2016.
The design is the same like other Hyundai elevator models produced since the mid 2000s.
