Overview
ELCOSMO is a traction passenger elevator model of Toshiba sold from the 2000s until the early 2010s. The model was manufactured by Toshiba Elevator (China) Co. Ltd. in China
It is a passenger elevator model designed for low to high rise buildings up to 40 floors. It uses a cylinder shaped gearless motor installed on the side of the machine room as the model adopts 2:1 roping configuration. It incorporates design and fixtures from the Japanese Toshiba models in Japan, particularly the SPACEL machine room less models. The capacity range is between 630 and 1800 kilograms, and the maximum speed is 2.5 meters per second.
It was discontinued in the early 2010s and was succeeded by the Toshiba ELCOSMO-III which is basically an improvement model.
Characteristics
- Ride quality is generally smooth.
- Car call cancellation works by double pressing the button. After the first press, it will flashes and goes off after the second press.
- Arrival chime is a two tone sound.

Buttons
There were ten button types. Unless otherwise stated, all of these buttons light up orange when pressed.
- UB-1: Black round button with an illuminating tactile (the most common type).
- UB-2: Black square button with an illuminating tactile.
- KB-01: Round white glass-like button that lights up entirely.
- KB-02: Square white glass-like button that lights up entirely.
- KB-03: Round black button with an illuminating letter.
- KB-04: Square black button with an illuminating letter.
- KB-05: Round silver button with illuminating edges.
- KB-06: Square silver button with illuminating edges.
- KB-07: Similar to KB-05 but with braille and illuminating letter.
- KB-08: Similar to KB-06 but with braille and illuminating letter.
Alarm button position varies depending on the position of the car station. For side mounted panel, the alarm button is in line with the door control buttons just below the floor buttons. For front return panel, the alarm button is above the floor buttons.
Floor indicators and hall lanterns
Floor indicators use red LED dot matrix display. The interior indicator is on the car station and is a lozenge shape display. Exterior indicators could be on the call station or above the door. There was also a 16-segments display exclusively for overhead landing indicator.
Hall lanterns are just illuminating bars that sit on a metal plate.
