GoldStar L series
In-production | 1989 to 2000 | Status | Discontinued |
Predecessor | GoldStar D series | Successor | Sigma Di |
Overview
The L series refers to a series of low speed traction elevator models produced by LG Industrial Systems Elevator (formerly GoldStar) from 1989 until 2000. It was produced at the Changwon factory in South Korea and is a successor of the GoldStar D series models. It is the predecessor of the Distributed Inverter (Di1) series model developed by LG in the late 1990s.
It was the first GoldStar model series to adopt microprocessor controllers and VVVF inverters. These models were designed for low to high rise buildings, usually up to 20 floors. After GoldStar changed name to LG, these models were continued to be produced under the "LG" trademark.
Models belong to this series are:
- LVP / LGP: Standard passenger elevator model. The improved model is LGP.
- LVS / LGS: Passenger/service elevator model. The improved model is LGS.
- LVO / LGO: Panoramic passenger elevator model. The improved model is LGO.
- LVB / LGB: Bed elevator model for hospitals. The improved model is LGB.
- LVF: Freight elevator model.
In Indonesia, these models were widely installed in low to mid rise commercial buildings, hotels and small to medium sized shopping centers built in the 1990s. Now it is becoming difficult to see as a lot of these elevators have been modernized or replaced.
Characteristics
- Almost all of these models have a loud and distinctive variable frequency noise during operation.
- The landing door keyhole, fireman switch and traction machines are based on Hitachi due to the fact that GoldStar had a technical partnership with Hitachi until the 1990s.
- Arrival chime is either a mechanical bell or electronic sound.
Models
GoldStar's elevator models used three digit naming format:
- The first digit refers to the speed ("L" for low, "M" for mid, and "H" for high).
- The second digit ("V") refers to the application of variable frequency inverters.
- The last digit refers to the type of usage (e.g. "P" is a passenger elevator type).
For example, the LVP model is a standard low speed passenger elevator model, whereas MVS is a medium speed service elevator model.
All of these models were produced at the Changwon factory in Changwon, South Korea. Technical specifications such as capacity are not known due to lack of information.
LVP
This is a standard passenger elevator model and is the successor of GoldStar DP. The speed is typically only 1 meters per second or less. Most of the GoldStar/LG elevators installed in the 1990s in Indonesia were of this model. The successor of LVP is the Distributed Inverter (Di1) model.
LVS
This is a service elevator model. It looks almost the same as LVP except that the car operating panel has the words "FOR PASSENGER & SERVICE". It is usually seen in shopping centers and often hotels.
LVO
This is a model of observation/panoramic elevator and a successor of GoldStar DO. It is believed that bottom drive configuration (i.e. machine room located on the bottom floor next to the shaft) could also be applied to this model. It is usually seen in shopping centers and often hotels.
LVB
This is a model of bed/stretcher elevator for hospitals and medical facilities. There are some cases where it is used as service elevator in buildings other than hospitals, such as apartments. It is the successor of GoldStar DB.
LVF
This is a freight elevator model for industrial buildings and shopping centers. It is the successor of GoldStar DF and is rarely seen in Indonesia. The freight elevator at Gedung Pusat Niaga of the Jakarta International Expo in Jakarta was of this model, but it was replaced into a Schindler 5500 in 2019 due to its severe condition.
LGP/LGS/LGB/LGO
Launched in 1996 by LG Industrial Systems Elevator, these models are basically an improvement of the LVP/LVS/LVB/LVO models. In these models, Insulated Gated Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is adopted, floor button beep has been added[1][2][3] and floor cancel feature was supported as an option. Other than that, the design remained the same as before. These models were sold until 2003.
Fixtures
All of these fixtures have no official names.
Standard fixtures
These standard fixtures have a very distinctive appearance. It consists of a dark grey colored panel with aluminum frames on the sides as well as round buttons with either orange, red or green light. The upper portion of the panel is where the floor indicator is located, which uses a digital segments display with triangle arrows. The indicator display inside is mostly slanted, but some others are flat instead[4]. This was the most common type of fixtures used in many GoldStar installations at that time. Some elevators may have the panel positioned in the corner between the front return panel and side wall (45 degrees rotated)[5].
There was also a very rare variant of this fixtures line up in which the buttons are simply mounted on a flat stainless steel panel[6][7].
Overhead landing floor indicators could be mounted on the wall, or integrated with the transom panel.
Square buttons
GoldStar also had square buttons which were either push or touch sensitive. These were mostly used in the MVP and HVP types and are usually found in high end buildings like offices, hotels or apartments.
Other fixtures
Another rare style of fixtures that GoldStar used were black square plastic buttons with orange light, and 1980s style car floor indicators with digital segments displays. The direction arrows are on the car station, and are the same as older Hitachi elevators. These are usually found in service/freight elevators[8][9] and are uncommon.
Round touch sensitive buttons
These buttons are round silver with illuminating halo. They are usually used as call buttons, though they could also be used as floor buttons but these are extremely rare in Indonesia (so far such installation can only be found in Travel Hotel, Jakarta[3]).
Updated fixtures
These fixtures came out around the late 1990s and are used in the last generation of -VP series and -GP models[1][2]. The buttons are silver rounded rectangle with illuminating edges, and the floor indicators have been redesigned with a new look but still using digital segments display.
These fixtures were later used in the Distributed Inverter series elevators with some redesigns, and continued to be produced by Sigma/Otis Elevator Korea until the 2010s.
Hall lanterns
The hall lanterns are usually round acrylic-like blocks (with or without triangle arrow) and light up yellow orange. Different other lantern styles also existed.
