Overview

ELEX was a series of elevator models produced exclusively by Shanghai Hyundai Elevator Co. Ltd., the Chinese subsidiary of Hyundai Elevator, in the 2000s. Little is known about it and it is very rare in Indonesia. It is assumed to be a low entry series designed for low to mid rise residential and basic commercial buildings. It uses either geared or gearless permanent magnet synchronous motor with Yaskawa inverters[1].

In Indonesia, it is usually seen in some commercial buildings as well as hotels. It was discontinued sometime in the late 2000s without a direct successor.

Characteristics

  • Relatively basic car design with stainless steel or painted walls.
  • Controller is assumed to be made by Shanghai STEP from China.

Models

There are six known models belong to the Hyundai ELEX series:

ELEX-P

A Hyundai ELEX-P elevator in Kemang, Jakarta.

This is a standard geared passenger elevator model. The capacity range is between 450 and 1600 kilograms, and the maximum speed is 2 meters per second[2]. Most of the Hyundai ELEX elevators installed in Indonesia are of this model.

ELEX-WP

This is a machine room less passenger elevator model. There are only a few such installations in Indonesia so it is a very rare model.

ELEX-OB

This is a panoramic passenger elevator model.

ELEX-B

This is a bed/stretcher elevator model for hospitals and medical facilities. It was available with a geared or permanent magnet synchronous gearless motor, and a two entrance option was also available.

ELEX-F

This is a freight elevator model for shopping centers, industrial buildings and warehouses.

ELEX-J2

This is a residential elevator model for private homes and villas. It is equipped with a Vector control technology combined with IGBT power modules and a cutting-edge Fujitron embedded microcomputer.

Fixtures

Hyundai ELEX elevators use non-proprietary (generic) fixtures, with square buttons that light up red when pressed and LED dot matrix floor indicators with scrolling arrows. These fixtures are believed to have been made by Shanghai STEP.
