Xizi Otis (Chinese: 西子奥的斯) was an elevator company based in Hangzhou, China. It was a subsidiary of American elevator company Otis.

Overview

It was established in 1997 under a joint venture between Otis and Hangzhou based Xizi Elevator Group. It was Otis's fifth joint venture companies in China, and was under the management of Otis China who was responsible for managing Otis's five Chinese subsidiaries[1].

In January 2016, it became Otis Electric which marked the end of the Xizi Otis brand[2].

In Indonesia, it is estimated that Xizi Otis entered the Indonesian market in the early 2000s and was representated by PT. Citas Otis Indonesia, the Indonesian subsidiary of Otis. During the 2000s, the proportion of Xizi Otis branded products are somewhat higher than that of regular Otis branded products and since the late 2000s nearly all Otis products installed in Indonesia are from Xizi Otis (Otis Electric for installations after 2017).

Characteristics

  • Nearly all Xizi Otis elevators have quick leveling like the regular China made Otis elevators.
  • Likewise, floor button light will goes off when the door starts opening.
  • Car call cancel is supported in most cases, which allows the user to cancel a floor by pressing the same button twice. On some elevators however, it will only work when the doors are open.

1997 to 2000s

  • The fixtures used in many Xizi Otis elevators from the 2000s are almost similar to the regular China made Otis elevators (i.e. Otis 3200 or 3000B) except that the direction arrows on the inside floor indicators are orange instead of green, plastic square buttons have non-transparent arrows, and the arrival chime is only a single tone.
  • Some elevators are simply branded as Otis, and the Xizi Otis names are only found in certain parts that are generally not visible to the public such as controllers.

XO21VF

Released in 1997, it is the first elevator model produced by Xizi Otis that combines technologies from American Otis elevators[3]. Very little is known about this model, but apparently it was sold in Indonesia at some point in the 2000s. This model has not yet been found in Indonesia.

OH 1000

This is a small sized machine room less elevator model for low rise residential buildings. This model has not yet been found in Indonesia.

OH 5000

This is a gearless traction elevator model for mid to high rise buildings, originally developed by Xizi Otis in 2002[3]. Most of the Xizi Otis branded elevators installed in low to mid rise buildings in the 2000s are of this model. Since 2016, it is produced by Otis Electric (the successor of Xizi Otis).

Gen2

This was basically Xizi Otis's version of Otis Gen2 machine room less elevator. The design is based on the early OH 5000 elevators. There is no known specific variant name for Xizi Otis Gen2 model.

Known installations in Indonesia:

OH 7000

Xizi Otis's gearless high speed model for high rise buildings. This model has not yet been found in Indonesia.

Otis FOVF

This is a geared freight elevator model for industrial buildings and shopping centers. In Indonesia, it is mainly seen in trade centers and lower to middle class shopping centers. Like the OH 5000, it is currently produced by Otis Electric since 2016. There are a few cases where this model was sold separately by Sigma and sold under their name[4][5].

Late 2000s to 2016

  • From this period, new fixtures consist of blue illuminating buttons and TFT-LCD floor indicators has been applied. They continued to be produced by Otis Electric until now. A new arrival chime sound has also been applied.
  • Although all of these models were manufactured by Xizi Otis, they are simply branded as "OTIS" on the car operating panels. The Xizi Otis names are only found on certain parts and components that are generally not visible to the public, such as machines and controllers.
  • On most models, car call cancel only works when the doors are open (it does not work when the elevator is traveling).

GeN2-Regen

Xizi Otis's Gen2 machine room less model which has been produced since the late 2000s, and from this model the Otis name is used more often than the Xizi Otis name on the car operating panels. Most of the Otis Gen2 elevators installed in Indonesia from the late 2000s onward are of this model. The Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit also uses this model for their North-South line (Phase 1) stations. Since 2016, it is manufactured by Otis Electric but in Indonesia this model was discontinued around the late 2010s and replaced by the new Gen2 Premier.

GeN2-MR

This is a variant of Gen2 with a machine room above the shaft. The design is the same as the GeN2-Regen model.

OH 5000

A gearless model for low to mid rise buildings. It is usually seen in high rise apartments and occasionally office buildings.

FOVF

This is a freight elevator model which continues to be produced by Otis Electric.
