Overview

Spec 5 (also known as Serie PM-2) was Otis's low to mid rise elevator model produced by Nippon Otis in Japan. It is an AC driven traction elevator with "Servodrive" relay controls. This model was launched in the late 1970s and was discontinued in the 1980s when it was succeeded by the Otis Spec 50.

In Indonesia, this model was sold from the late 1970s until around the mid 1980s. They were mostly installed in low rise commercial and hotel buildings, as well as few hospitals.

Characteristics

  • Exterior always have wide door frame with the landing call station mounted there. For elevators with two or more cars, the call station is mounted on the wall instead.
  • AC driven with a rather abrupt start and stop, especially those that are not well maintained.
  • Numbers on the indicators always blink when changing floors, due to relay controls.

Fixtures

The buttons are round black with white letters and the edges illuminate orange. The green door is colored green, while the emergency intercom button is colored red.

The floor indicator uses a seven segments display which blinks when the number changes. As it is a seven segments display, the basement floors are always shown with a minus (-) and the ground floor is shown as zero (0). The direction arrows on the buttons and indicators are solid. Landing indicators are always integrated with the call buttons. Interior indicators are always above the door and stretches the entire doorway.

For a single elevator, the landing call station is always mounted on the door frame. For a bank of two or more, the call station is mounted on the wall instead.
