Overview
Gen2-Regen (often stylized as GeN2-Regen on some official Otis brochures) is a variant of Otis Gen2 elevator originally produced by Otis's Chinese subsidiary Xizi Otis between the late 2000s and 2016, and Otis Electric (the successor of Xizi Otis) between 2016 and the late 2010s. It was produced in Hangzhou, China.
It is a model of machine room less passenger elevator designed for low to mid rise buildings. Nearly all Gen2-Regen elevators are equipped with the ReGen regenerative drive, which could transfer used energy from the elevator to the building's electrical grid instead of releasing it as heat.
Despite being produced by Xizi Otis (and later Otis Electric), these elevators are simply branded as "OTIS" on the button panels. Instead, the Xizi Otis/Otis Electric names are only seen on certain components that are not visible to the public, such as control board.
In Indonesia, it was widely installed in hotels and resorts, shopping centers, office buildings and rarely apartments built in the 2010s. It was discontinued in the late 2010s and succeeded by the Gen2 Premier model.
Characteristics
- Gen2-Regen elevators generally level quick; the doors open as soon as the car stops.
- Machine room type has a smaller control cabinet on the top floor.
- Gen2-Regen machine room less elevators have audible motor buzzing noise.
- Installations after 2016 have an iPhone notification-like chime, and some installations may have a beep sound which indicates travel direction.
- Car call cancel only works when the door opens.

Otis GeN2-Regen in Jakarta MRT
Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) ordered several Otis GeN2-Regen MRL elevators for Phase 1 of the North-South Line (M1). All stations of Phase 1 of this line uses these elevators. They were installed from 2017 until 2018 and began operating in mid March 2019 as part of the system's trial run day.
The design of these elevators is basically similar to those installed in other buildings but features glass doors, voice announcements, and classical musics played in the elevator. All elevators feature two entrances facing each other, except those installed in Bendungan Hilir and Fatmawati station which use two entrances on a 90 degrees layout due to space constraint.
