Overview
SP-III was a traction elevator model of Japanese elevator manufacturer Mitsubishi that was produced between 1983 and the late 1980s for export markets. It is a standard passenger elevator model for low to mid rise buildings with an AC feedback control method and microcomputer controllers as opposed to mechanical relays. It was the first fully computerized Mitsubishi elevator model. SP-III was based on the Mitsubishi Elepet Advance model that was only sold in Japan and launched in 1979.
As the first Mitsubishi elevator model to use microcomputer control at that time, it scored a number of improvements compared to its predecessors. These include reliability and ride comfort since it doesn't use mechanical relay contacts (the elevator's operation is entirely digital), and leveling accuracy as it uses a digital floor selector which replaced the old style mechanical floor selector. Mitsubishi also claimed the model could save power up to 20% compared to the previous relay controlled SP type elevators and the size of the control board had been made 2/3 smaller since it used microcomputer. In addition, the car design and fixtures were also significantly improved and updated.
Chronologically, it was the third model of Mitsubishi SP, a series of standard passenger elevator models for export markets that was produced from the 1970s until the early 1990s. Development of the SP-III began in 1982 and it is believed that production started in the following year[1]. It was discontinued in the late 1980s and succeeded by the Mitsubishi SPVF.
In Indonesia, SP-III was mainly installed in small to medium sized office buildings in the 1980s. Today it is extremely difficult to find as many installations have been replaced or modernized.
Characteristics
- The COP has the "MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC" logo marked on the top of the panel.
- Door sills are typically thin.
Known specifications
Very little is known about the specifications for SP-III but it is assumed that the maximum capacity is between 450 and 1000 kilograms (or 6 - 15 persons). The speed is generally 1 meters per second, it is unknown if higher speed options were also available.
Fixtures
The landing and car stations are dark grey with aluminum sides. The buttons and floor indicators use Gothic typeface.
Buttons
The buttons are dark colored micro pressure push buttons with an orange light. Some installations had square glass-like buttons with a triangle cutout in the center and lights up entirely when pressed.
Floor indicators and hall lanterns
The floor indicators are mostly analog display. The car floor indicator is located above the car door and spans the entire door width. Overhead landing floor indicators are usually analog display consists of illuminating squares. Hall lanterns are usually triangle shaped. Digital segments displays were available as an option.
